- Polymyxin B 500,000 Units Injection USP is a lyophilized powder vial of polymyxin B sulfate, a cationic polypeptide antibiotic reserved for life-threatening Gram-negative infections resistant to other agents. It disrupts bacterial outer membrane permeability by binding phospholipids, rapidly bactericidal against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter, Klebsiella, E. coli, Enterobacter, and Haemophilus; primary uses include sepsis, meningitis, UTI, eye infections (topical/subconjunctival), and as last-resort for MDR pathogens.
