Linagliptin 5 mg Tablet is a DPP-4 inhibitor that prolongs the action of endogenous incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP), enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon while minimizing hypoglycemia risk in type 2 diabetes. Used as monotherapy or combination therapy (with metformin, SGLT2i, sulfonylureas, insulin) when diet/exercise fail; reduces HbA1c by 0.5-0.8%, weight-neutral, suitable for renal impairment (no dose adjustment, biliary clearance). Adults: 5 mg once daily (any time, with/without food); common side effects include nasopharyngitis (5-6%), cough, headache; rare serious risks include pancreatitis, severe joint pain, bullous pemphigoid, HF; monitor for allergic reactions, abdominal pain.
